Marma are the whole areas of the body. The word Marma is sanskrit term origin word ‘mri’ meaning ,dead, death.
The Sanskrit phrase, ‘मरयते इति मरमनी ’, means serious damage to body or health after infliction to the point of their situation.Hence these part are called Marma. In siddha system of medicine are called Varma.
Marma in Sanskrit means hidden.A Marma point is a junction on body where two or more types of tissue meet, such as muscles, veins, ligaments, bones or joints.

Marma-points are specific physical locations in your body through which the energy of these elements flows. Marma point therapy is the practice of stimulating these spots through gentle massage therapy

Marma-points are said to contain the three doshas:

  • Vata Dosh
  • Kapha Dosh
  • Pitta Dosh

Warriors have actively used Marma therapy on battlefields to strike with precision and maximize the lethal impact on their enemies.

This science plays a crucial role in both warfare and surgery. From common ailments to complex neuromuscular disorders, Marma therapy offers effective treatment solutions.

It effectively alleviates common issues such as headaches, body aches, misaligned spine, and joint pain through Marma Chikitsa techniques, including Swedana, Abhyanga, Pizhichil, and Kizhi (bolus) treatment. In Kizhi therapy, practitioners slightly fry medicinal herbs, wrap them in muslin cloth, and tie them into a bolus. They then heat the bolus in therapeutic oils and apply it to the affected area, followed by a specialized massage using the fingers, heel, or palm to enhance healing and relief.

The pressure application varies according to the nature of ailment and the point of application.
